The "613 Laws" and the New Testament/Covenant

The scripture says the law is holy and spiritual (Rom 7:12-14).

The so called "613 laws" of the Old Testament are essentially rabbinical commentary on the Torah.

Be aware that not all Jews hold there are exactly 613 laws. Some say less and some say more. Some say that some laws in the list are duplicated and some are missing.

The below list seems to distinguish commandments from law. The emphasis seems to be on what the individual should do not only to keep the commandments/laws but also what the response of others is to be.

There are numerous such lists of "613 laws" that describe the laws differently.

Listed law descriptions and corresponding Old Testament Scriptures are with a few modifications taken from a list at Chabad

Note that the 613 laws are based on the Tanakh (Judaism Old Testament). In the Tanakh verses 5:20-25 of Leviticus are Leviticus 6:1-6 in the KJV and other Christian translations. Also in Exodus verse 22:1 in the KJV is verse 21:37 in the Tanakh so generally for references to Exodus 22 one would add 1 to get the corresponding KJV verse.

New Testament Cross References to the Old Testament scriptures are generated by a Python script I wrote using pythonbible module and other tools. Note these cross references are based on human interpretations as found in such works as the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (TSK)

Some of the Old Testament scriptures has some Old Testament cross references but I include only New Testament Cross references in the cross reference list as I am only interested in the New Testament cross references for each law.

For some verses corresponding cross references might not exist.

Multiple lines are listed for items which contain multiple verses in the descriptions.

Cross references might not exactly match the related Old Testament scriptures and there might be additional New Testament scriptures that pertain to the Old Testament scriptures. One should use one's own analytical abilities and knowledge of scripture to ascertain whether the scriptures reasonably correspond.

Herein I divide the laws into three categories: general moral laws, ceremonial laws, and civil laws. Ceremonial and civil laws implement moral principles; in that sense all laws are moral laws at some level.

General moral laws are those which apply everywhere for all time.

Civil laws are those which God prescribed for Israel's national government under the Old Covenant. However, under the New Covenant such laws are no longer binding such that God leaves it up to the government of each nation including Israel to implement or not implement and to the degree of implementation if implemented.

Ceremonial laws are those which God prescribed for Israel's leadership and people under the Old Covenant. However, under the New Covenant such laws are no longer bindings such that God leaves it up to the individual to do or not do. Of course, choosing to not follow them may have some benefit such as useful liberty and may have some risks such as health risks.

General moral laws are highlighted with alternating white and light blue, ceremonial laws are highlighted with alternating white or light blue and green and civil laws with alternating white or light blue and orange in the table below. Intermixed general moral laws are highlighted with dark blue, some alternating with light blue or white.

The list of 613 laws I used seems to have blocks of general moral, ceremonial, and civil laws. I place headings in the below table where such blocks seem to exist. Within the block there are at times laws that do not seem to apply to the block; in the case I change the color to the appropriate law category for those which I observed. I may have missed some intermixed laws so be aware of that.
